Farming with marginal land holdings in a watershed is becoming a big challenge. Especially if the land is undulating and steep, the cultivation becomes difficult .In addition, if the land is scattered than it is not possible for the farmers to achieve economics of scale.

Now days, not only nearby cites but also in villages, it is difficult to get labors for cultivation of the lands. The youth of the villages are in search of job in cities .Generally the aged member of the family in village are seen cultivating the land .The Young school going children in their spare time can also be seen helping in cultivating the land. The marginal lands are usually cultivated by pair of bullocks and plough. The ploughing of marginal land by using pair of bullocks has been practiced   since long. Now, it is required to enhance the efficiency of ploughing so that the land cultivation can be done in lesser time.  

Farm mechanization with small power tiller can be a good solution for cultivating marginal lands. The power tillers are now available for cultivation in marginal & undulating lands. The farmers should be encouraged for  farm mechanization. This way the labour unavailability for marginal land cultivation can be addressed and rising labour cost in total input cost can be reduced.
